Paleoecology is the study of the relationships of ancient organisms with each other and their environment.
Paleoecologic research is being conducted to reconstruct how ecosystems have changed over time. This involves the collection and identification of macroremains of ancient plants and animals. The goals include understanding the bio-cultural diversity and environmental conditions associated with different stratigraphic horizons.
Washed sediments (processed through a wet screen) from each excavation level are painstakingly examined.
All macro-remains are picked out and sorted.
The macro-remains are then photographed, cataloged, and identified.
